Canon Point: End of Act II after Hawke killed the Arishok
Appearance: Isabela is of average height, probably around 5'7". She is curvy with a rather ample chest and ass. She is well-muscled from her years at sea and fighting. Isabela has naturally dark skin that is freckled and has been a bit weathered by the elements due to being out at sea. She has long dark brown hair, typically held back from her face by a bandana, and golden-brown eyes. She prefers not wearing pants, opting instead for a short skirt-like apparel paired with her shirt and corset and thigh-high boots. By her admission, this style of dress is easier to clean after getting into a messy fight. She also has a labret lip piercing as well as having both ears pierced. There is also a gold arm band on her left forearm, but it is largely obscured by her leather arm wraps. She also wears an elaborate gold neckpiece all the time.
History: Isabela was born and raised in the country of Rivain in Thedas. Surrounded on three sides by ocean, it seemed almost inevitable that Isabela would hear and heed the call of the sea. However, it wasn't until after she was married that she gained a love for the distant horizon. Her husband had seen her in the market in Llomerryn and decided he had to have her. So her mother ended up selling Isabela to the man for a goat and a handful of gold coins. To say the least, Isabela was extremely upset about this, and still harbors resentment for her mother. Isabela was little more than a trophy to the man, who just so happened to be the captain of a ship called The Siren's Call. Then as fate would have it, an assassin did away with her husband. Isabela also had an affair with this rather dashing elven assassin from Antiva. But just as quickly as the man had come, he'd left, leaving Isabela alone. While she greatly disliked that, she didn't dwell on it for long. With her husband's demise, she inherited his ship. And so, Isabela took to the seas once more with her crew.
During the Fifth Blight, Isabela docked in Denerim so that her ship could resupply and her men could indulge in other pleasures from dry land. It was during this that she encountered the two surviving Grey Wardens from the battle of Ostagar and the assassin who had killed her husband. While she was a little testy with Zevran, the assassin, she did have reason. He had killed her husband, slept with her, and then left without further word. But Isabela quickly got over it, knowing she was better off now with her husband dead and being captain of the bastard's ship. After all, The Siren's Call treated her much better than it had ever treated her husband. Isabela was able to offer the Warden or any of the Warden's companions training in her fighting skills as a Duelist. And she also may or may not have slept with one, two, three or four of the party involved. But once that was over with, she turned back to resupplying her ship and getting out of Ferelden.
However, not long after leaving before she got caught up in the Blight, Isabela's ship was caught up in a storm and wrecked off the coast of Kirkwall, stranding her in the city. She was hired by Castillon to supervise a shipment of his. However, being the ever suspicious woman she is, Isabela discovered this "cargo" was actually Blight refugees that Castillon sold as slaves. Taking offense to this, Isabela freed the refugees, in turn angering Castillon. As punishment, he had her steal a relic from a lost ship. Shortly after this she met Hawke, and Hawke and the other companions agreed to help Isabela in her search. After an ambush, Isabela determined that if she located the relic and gave it to Castillon, their differences would be settled. She then joined Hawke's party, helping to fight the evils in Kirkwall. At least up until the Qunari. It turned out that the relic Isabela was tracking down actually belonged to the Qunari, and this missing relic was in fact the true reason the Qunari had not left Kirkwall. Locating the relic became a priority for both Isabela and Hawke as the Qunari were getting restless. Once the relic was located, Isabela took it and ran, leaving a note for Hawke, apologizing for her actions in this matter. But Isabela didn't get overly far before she knew she had to turn around and go back. Now, later she claimed she came back to ask the Viscount for a ship, but she'd really come back to help Hawke out and hopefully put an end to the Qunari rampaging through Kirkwall because of her. After turning over the relic to the Arishok, Isabela was nearly taken back to Par Vollen with the Qunari, but Hawke didn't allow that, fighting the Arishok in a battle to the death for who "won" Isabela. Hawke won, earning the title of Champion of Kirkwall, and Isabela kept her distance. She wasn't the heroic type despite having come back with the relic. Now that Hawke was getting glory heaped upon them, Isabela felt as though she was worth Hawke's time and blended into the background, avoiding Hawke as much as she could.
Previous Game History, IF APPLICABLE: N/A
Personality: Flirtatious and vivacious, Isabela is a lively woman that lives for the thrill of the moment. She hates sitting idle with nothing to do, though if she's not busy she will pass her time drinking in a tavern and hooking up with someone for the night. Yes, she is a bit of a whore, and she's not ashamed of it. It may earn her being called a whore by her friends, but she never takes it as an insult. In fact, very few things could actually insult her. Having been a lone woman on a ship full of men sailing around the sea gave her a very thick skin.
Though despite all of her sarcasm and sometimes light-hearted nature of dealing with things, she does know when to be serious. She does have a softer side, one that she tends to hide very carefully for fear of hurting anyone. Isabela isn't good at emotional things, such as trying to comfort others or really have a straight conversation about her feelings. After her loveless marriage and being the only woman on a ship, she learned early on to harden herself to keep from both being hurt and hurting others. Relationships and commitment do frighten her, and as a result, she has a nymphomaniac type of nature. She doesn't care what others think of her, and she does what she wants when she wants, but she does actually have standards when it comes to people she sleeps with. Of course, she can tend to make exceptions to her standards if she's been at sea long enough.
Also being a pirate, Isabela is always looking for treasure. While she pretends that her moral compass is broken, she actually does have a good heart and if she's forced to take a stand for an injustice, she will. But she will slip out of any bad situation at the first available moment. Isabela isn't one for long encounters, and her thirst for the horizon always makes her move on quickly. She really tries not to get herself involved in anything that could potentially end with her death or capture, but after meeting Hawke, that was a bit troublesome. While she may have a snarky remark about Hawke's influence on her life, she likes the trouble they get into. If there's one thing Isabela hates more than being trapped on land, it's being bored. She likes excitement and if she's bored she will usually create her own excitement, which usually has bad overtones for everyone else.
